PATRIARKH - WIERSZALIN IV (feat. Eliza Sacharczuk) (Official Video)
Patriarkh is a Polish black metal band formerly known as Batushka. In September 2024, the band announced a name change to Patriarkh, marking the conclusion of a long-standing legal dispute among its members.
Renowned for blending extreme metal with Orthodox musical traditions, the band presents a conceptual album titled Prophet Elijah. Based on true events from the 1930s and 1940s, the album narrates the story of Eliasz Klimowicz, a peasant who declared himself a prophet and led a religious movement in the band's native region of Podlachia.
The musical composition incorporates traditional instruments such as the talharpa, hurdy-gurdy, and mandolin, alongside symphonic arrangements. This creates an atmosphere that merges liturgical chants with elements of black and doom metal, enriched with folk music and neo-dark-folk influences.
The album’s lyrical content is a blend of theater and pastoral themes, featuring excerpts from the play Prophet Elijah and works by Włodzimierz Pawluczuk, as well as traditional and liturgical texts. For the first time in the band’s history, the lyrics are performed in Polish, adding an extra layer of authenticity to the album.
Prophet Elijah is a unique fusion of tradition and modernity, creating an atmosphere where mysticism meets reality.
